JUTE-DAY- GAZI
National Jute Day on Mar 6
DHAKA, March 4, 2019 (BSS) – The National Jute Day-2019 will be observed
throughout the country aiming to promote jute goods for regaining the lost
glory of the golden fibre.
The slogan of the day has been fixed as “Golden country of golden fibre
(Sonali Asher Sonar Desh), Father of the Nation’s Bangladesh (Jatir
Pitar Bangladesh).”
The main function of the National Jute Day will be held at the
Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) and a two-day jute goods
fair is set to begin on March 6.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the inaugural function
of the National Jute Day.
At the press conference, Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi
said the government has taken steps for modernization of jute cultivation,
procurement and preservation aimed at attracting more farmers and traders to
this highly potential sector.
He said, “Jute plays an important role in our economy and protection of
environment.”
Jute is an inevitable part of our culture and heritage. National Jute
Day has been declared to expedite the economic development by exploring the
potential of Golden Fibre Jute of Bangladesh, he said.
Bangladesh produces the best quality jute in the world, Gazi said,
adding the jute sector still has enormous economic potentiality.
“Diversification of jute production will significantly contribute to
widen export volume in the country. Activated charcoal from jute stick has
opened a new chapter in the jute sector as Bangladesh is exporting activated
charcoal to China,” he added.
As part of observance of the National Jute Day, elaborate programmes —
including bringing out rallies, discussions and holding publicity campaign —
have been taken aiming to create awareness among the people.
