Govt to take steps to demolish risky buildings: Rejaul

DHAKA, Mar 4, 2019 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rejaul Karim
today said the government will take steps soon to demolish the vulnerable
buildings in Dhaka city.

“After a survey in 2016, Rajdhani Unnayan Kattripakkha (RAJUK) identified 321
risky buildings in the capital. Of those, the building owners have already
demolished 25 buildings while 28 new buildings were constructed dismantling the
risky ones,” he said while responding to a starred question placed by M Abdul
Latif of Chattogram-11 in the parliament with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury in the chair.

The housing minister said now there are 255 vulnerable buildings in the capital
while 35 buildings are highly vulnerable ones.

As the decisions of the inter-ministerial meetings, he said, measures will be taken
to demolish the vulnerable buildings of Dhaka city, considering the
recommendations of experts.

An inter-ministerial committee, under the Disaster Management and Relief
Ministry, has been formed in this regard, Karim said, adding that works continue
to take steps to demolish the vulnerable buildings.
