Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

DHAKA, Mar 4, 2019 (BSS) – Stock markets closed on Monday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were ceramic sector and financial institutions. A total of 187 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 40.66 points down at 5,682.41. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 8.71 points down at 1,309.20 and with 10.72 points down at 1, 991.70.

The daily trade fell to 12.36 crore shares from Sunday’s 14.61 crore shares. But the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 682.02 crore from Taka 662.27 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 343 securities, prices of 73 securities closed higher against 227 losing issues. The major gaining issues were GENEXIL, MERCINS, KAY&QUE, Safko Spinning and EASTLAND. The major losing companies were RAK Ceramic, Monno Ceramic, VAMLRBBF, First Finance and Bay Leasing.

Monno Ceramics topped the turnover list followed by UPGDCL, BSCCL, Square Pharma and Premier Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 75.74 points down at 17,426.17.

At CSE, 233 issues were traded. Of those, 57 closed higher and 143 closed lower when 48.50 lakh shares worth Taka 21.08 crore changed hands.
