2 gold traders on 5-day remand

CHATTOGRAM, March 4, 2019, (BSS)- A Chattogram court today placed two gold traders– Rakib Islam and Karim Khan Kalu– on a five-day remand in a case filed over 600 pieces of gold bars recovery from Zorargonj thana of the district yesterday.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaiser passed the order following a hearing on the remand petition, District Court Inspector Bijon Kumar Barua told BSS.

The court granted five-day remand each when the investigating officer prayed for 10 days remand, he added.

Earlier, members of Chattogram district police in a drive arrested the duo with the gold bars worth about Taka 27 crore from Sonapahar area of Zorargonj thana.

Moshidullah Reza, additional superintendent of police of Chattogram district north, said based on secret information a team of the district police recovered the gold bars, weighing 58-kg, from a Dhaka-bound private car at city’s Reazuddin Bazar in Sonapahar area of the thana on Sunday evening.

Police detained the private car with the gold bars and a case was filed with the Zorargonj thana in this connection.
