ICT sets March 25 for indictment hearing against Wahidul

DHAKA, March 4, 2019 (BSS) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1
today set March 25 to hold hearing on charge framing in the crimes against
humanity against former director general of National Security Intelligence
(NSI) Muhammad Wahidul Haque.

A three-member ICT-1 panel headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the
order taking into cognizance the formal charge submitted by the prosecution.

“We have filed formal charge against him for his involvement in crimes
like arson, killings and genocide,” prosecutor Zead-al Malum said.

The investigation agency of the ICT completed their probe against the
alleged crimes committed by Wahidul on October 30, 2018, and handed over the
report to the prosecution on the same day.

“Wahidul Haque, who was an adjutant of 29 Cavalry Regiment based in
Rangpur Cantonment at the time, went on a killing spree on March 28, 1971, as
he and his subordinates brush fired on freedom loving people of the area and
killed around 600 innocents. They also set fire to houses and burnt the
bodies of those killed in their gunfire,” probe body chief coordinator
Muhammad Abdul Hannan Khan said on October 30, 2018.

Khan said they had launched their investigation against Haque on December
5, 2016. They have made 54 people witnesses in the trial.

Wahidul Haque was arrested on April 24, 2018, from his Baridhara house
right after the ICT-1 issued arrest warrant against him.
