Tokyo stocks close higher on US-China trade hopes
TOKYO, March 4, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – Tokyo’s benchmark Nikkei index gained
more than one percent Monday on hopes the United States and China will avoid
escalating trade frictions, and with a cheaper yen also supporting the
market.
The Nikkei 225 index added 1.02 percent, or 219.35 points, to close at
21,822.04, while the broader Topix index was up 0.73 percent, or 11.87
points, at 1,627.59.
