Quality production stressed for flourishing SME sector

RANGPUR, Mar 04, 2019 (BSS) – Officials and business community leaders
have stressed on production of international standard SME products to enhance
export facing challenges of the globalised free trade economic system.

They put special importance on popularisation of local quality products
among the consumers to flourish the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector
for creating jobs to cut poverty and speed up national advancement.

They made these observations on Sunday night at the concluding function
of the week-long Rangpur Regional SME Product Fair-2019 held on Public
Library ground in the city.

The SME Foundation organised the fair with assistance of the district
administration, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, Rangpur
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
National Association of Small and Cottage Industries Bangladesh and other
SME-related organisations.

Sixty-nine SME institutions from all over the country, including Rangpur
division, women entrepreneurs, local chambers and business bodies had set up
stalls on the fair premises.

A huge spectrum of locally produced SME goods like leather and jute
products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products, electrical and
electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products were
exhibited and marketed in the fair.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib attended the concluding function as the
chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir
in the chair.

Deputy General Manager of BSCIC for Rangpur AFM Jalal Uddin, Additional
Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Mohammad Foyzul Alam, Deputy Police
Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan,
Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hossain and RCCI Director Partho Bose
addressed as special guests.

The speakers said the SME sector is playing important role in creating
employment opportunities for unemployed workforce improving their livelihoods
by cutting poverty side by side with accelerating national progress.

RCCI Director Partho Bose put emphasis on flourishing female
entrepreneurship in the SME sector and allocation of adequate SME loans in a
hassle-free manner to flourish the prospective sector.

AFM Jalal Uddin stressed on ensuring production of international
standard quality of local SME products to enhance export facing the
challenges of globalised free trade economic system.

The chief guest said the fair helped to explore the SME sector and urged
entrepreneurs to avail the assistance being provided by the government
through the SME Foundation and other financial institutions to flourish the
sector.
