World Wildlife conservation Day observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 3, 2019 (BSS)-Environmentalists and experts at a post-
rally discussion here today unequivocally called for proper conservation of
wildlife for maintaining environmental balance and ecosystem.

They also stressed the need for more public awareness about importance
of the wildlife. Existence of wildlife including marine resources is very
important for protecting the biodiversity, they said.

Department of Wildlife and Nature Conservation, Department of Social
Forestry and Deputy Commissioner Office jointly organized the rally and
discussion in front of Shaheed AHM Quamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo in the
city to mark the World Wildlife Day-2019.

Some voluntary organizations including Bangladesh Biodiversity
Conservation Federation (BBCF), Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS), Better
Nature and Society and Save the Nature and Life supported the programme.

“Life below water: for people and planet” was the main theme of the
day.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Zulkar Nayon, Divisional
Forest Officer of Department of Wildlife and Nature Conservation Zillur
Rahman, BBCF President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder and its Secretary Mijanur
Rahman and Vice-president Dr Hemayetul Islam and Wildlife Inspector Jahangir
Kabir addressed the meeting as resource persons.

In his remarks, Prof Jalal Sarder opined that the wildlife population
has been gradually declining due to various reasons including shrinking of
their habitat. That is why time-fitting measures should be adopted.
Zulkar Nayon said wildlife sanctuary is very important for protecting
natural world. So, ensuring security to the wildlife has become an urgent
need, he said.

All government, non-government and research organizations concerned
should come forward and work together to protect the existing wildlife and
nature from further degradation, he added.
