Drug trader killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

MYMENSINGH, March 3, 2019 (BSS) – A drug trader was killed in a
‘gunfight’ with police in Kalibari Puratan Godara area in the city early
today

The deceased was identified as Lalu Mia, 45, son of Akter Hossain of
city’s Krishtapur Baganbari area, police said.

Being informed, a police team conducted a raid in the area at about 1.30
am. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on
them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight, said Shah Kamal
Akanda, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of Police in Mymensingh.

Lalu sustained bullet wounds during the gun battle and was immediately
rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors
declared him dead, the OC added.

Police recovered 150gm heroin and 300 pieces of yaba pills from the
spot. The body was sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Lalu was wanted in eight cases including seven related to narcotics with
different police stations of Mymensingh including Kotwali Police Station, the
OC informed.

Two policemen constables- Md Motiul Islam, 40, and Md Shafiqul Islam,
33, injured during the gungight.

A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station.
