Women entrepreneurs for raising BB’s revolving fund credit limit
DHAKA, March 2, 2019 (BSS) – Women entrepreneurs Network for Development
Association (WEND) today recommended that the credit limit for revolving fund of
Bangladesh Bank (BB) be raised to Taka 1 crore for women entrepreneurship.
It also urged the commercial banks at a press conference to make their help desk
more effective for the women entrepreneurs.
WEND President Dr Nadia Binte Amin read out a written statement at the conference
room of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF).
Nadia said the government has a framed policy to provide loan to women
entrepreneurs with low interest and easy conditions, but they do not get the benefit
of the initiative.
Mentioning that women entrepreneurs are facing lots of hurdles such as high
interest rate, conditions and complexities in getting loan from bank, she said the
women would be benefited if the existing policy is made easy.
Nadia alleged banks have women entrepreneur’s desk but they do not get cooperation
from it, resulting women are getting behind from business.
She also demanded VAT exemption for the firms being operated by the women which
has a turnover of Taka 50 lakh. “Most of the women entrepreneurs are small and medium
that is why they could not survive in the competitive market paying high VAT.”
The WEND President also urged the government to establish a specialized Women
Entrepreneur Training Centre in each division.
General Secretary Zishan Akhter Chowdhury, Senior Vice President Shamima Laizu,
Vice President Ayesha Siddika and Treasurer Anwara Siddik, among others, were present.
