Women entrepreneurs for raising BB’s revolving fund credit limit

Association (WEND) today recommended that the credit limit for revolving fund of

Bangladesh Bank (BB) be raised to Taka 1 crore for women entrepreneurship.

It also urged the commercial banks at a press conference to make their help desk

more effective for the women entrepreneurs.

room of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF).

Nadia said the government has a framed policy to provide loan to women

entrepreneurs with low interest and easy conditions, but they do not get the benefit

of the initiative.

Mentioning that women entrepreneurs are facing lots of hurdles such as high

interest rate, conditions and complexities in getting loan from bank, she said the

women would be benefited if the existing policy is made easy.

Nadia alleged banks have women entrepreneur’s desk but they do not get cooperation

from it, resulting women are getting behind from business.

She also demanded VAT exemption for the firms being operated by the women which

has a turnover of Taka 50 lakh. “Most of the women entrepreneurs are small and medium

that is why they could not survive in the competitive market paying high VAT.”

The WEND President also urged the government to establish a specialized Women

Entrepreneur Training Centre in each division.

Vice President Ayesha Siddika and Treasurer Anwara Siddik, among others, were present.
