Four drug peddlers killed in Teknaf

COX’S BAZAR, March 1, 2019 (BSS) – Four alleged drug peddlers were killed
in separate encounters with police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in
Hoaikong and Sabrang areas in Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early today.

The deceased are Nojir Ahmed, 40, Gias Uddin, 30, Abdus Shukkur, 50, and
his son Mohammad Elias, 30.

“Acting on tip-off, a team of Teknaf police station raided Bottali area
under Noya Para in Hoaikong, Teknaf at the early hours of today. Sensing
presence of police, the yaba peddlers started firing at them
indiscriminately. Police too retaliated. Later we found Gias and Nojir
wounded from the place and rushed them to Teknaf hospital, where the
attending doctors declared them dead,” Teknaf Police Station officer in-
charge Prodip Kumar Das told BSS.

The police official said four of his colleagues also got injured in the
incident.

In another incident, a patrol team of BGB came under fire from yaba
traders in Kakra project area in Puraton Mog Para under Sabrang union,
prompting them to fire back.

“At the end of gunfight, we found Shukkur and Elias from the place with
serious gun injuries and sent them Teknaf hospital. The attending doctors
declared them dead. We found one lakh yaba tablets and a local made weapon
from the spot as well,” BGB 2 Battalion commander Lt Col Asadud Zaman
Chowdhury told BSS.

A frontier force member also got injured in the gunfight.
