Int’l Conference on Climate Change begins at DU

DHAKA, March 01, 2019 (BSS) – With a view to creating global awareness
on climate change, a two-day long international conference began today at
Dhaka University (DU).

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated this
conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium on the
campus.

Center for Climate Change Study and Resource Utilization of DU organised
the conference in cooperation with Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth
Scholars and Fellows (BACSAF) and Alumni Association of German Universities
in Bangladesh (AAGUB).

Addressing the function, German Ambassador Peter Fahrenholtz stressed
the need for creating awareness on climate change issues among the people so
that they can play effective role in this regard.

He called upon the researchers to work together to resolve this burning
problems.

“German Government will work together with Bangladesh in the fields of
global warming and climate change issues,” he said.

DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the leaders of the world
community to come forward with their cooperation to make the global
environment safe.

“The global warming is increasing rapidly due to emission of greenhouse
gases. Industrial revolution in developed countries triggers this emission of
greenhouse gases,” he added.

“Developing countries like Bangladesh are suffering hazard from these
emissions and being affected by the effect of climate change,” he said.

Bangladesh is now facing challenges as one of the most vulnerable
countries, he mentioned.

Some effective and pragmatic recommendations would come out of this
conference to mitigate problems and crisis of climate changes, the
participants hoped.

Many local and internationally renowned experts and scientists from USA,
Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy and India are participating at this
conference.
