Boro seedling transplantation nears completion in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS) – The farmers are expecting a bumper
production as transplantation of Boro rice seedling is nearing completion in
the district.

The farmers are now busy in nurturing the paddy fields with the
enthusiasm of getting more production of rice. Favourable climatic condition
and adequate supply of high quality seed has helped the farmers.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said
around 46,500 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in
all five upazilas of the district with the production target of 3,72,000
metric tonnes of fresh rice in this season.

Deputy Director of DAE of Panchagarh Abu Hossein told BSS that about 90
percent lands have already been planted and the remaining would be completed
within one week.

The Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) distributed
high quality Boro seed to the farmers of the district at fair price. Besides,
the department has distributed Boro seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural
inputs among 200 farmers at free of cost to make the cultivation programme a
success.

Different commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan bank (RAKUB)
has distributed easy term loans to the farmers.

The department has also given training on modern agricultural production
technologies amongst farmers for boosting bumper production.
