PIB DG Shah Alamgir passes away

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS) – Distinguished Journalist and Press Institute
of Bangladesh (PIB) Director General (DG) Shah Alamgir passed away at city’s
Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this morning around 10.10 am.

He was 62, family sources said.

Shah Alamgir was undergoing treatment for various diseases including
diabetic and admitted to CMH on February 21 when he fell sick. Later, he was
transferred to ICU (Incentive Care Unit) following deterioration of his
condition on 22 February last.

Alamgir is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter, a host of relatives and
well-wishers to mourn his death.

The body will be taken at his family resident at Goran where first namaj-e-
janaja will be held after Zohr prayer.

At 2.30 pm, his body will be taken to his workplace, Press Institute of
Bangladesh where the second namaj-e-janaja will be held.

Later, the body will be taken to National Press Club around 3pm today prior
to his burial at Uttara Graveyard (sector 12).

Alamgir’s journalism career started from his student life through joining
the first child-teen weekly Kishore Bangla. He worked as co-editor here from
1980 to 1984. Then he worked with Dainik Janata, Banglar Bani, Daily Azad and
Daily Sangbad. He was involved with Bangla daily Prothom Alo from November 1,
1998 to September 2001, he served as joint editor.

Then he started working on television media. After that, he worked Channel
I as Chief News Editor, Ekushey Television as Head of News, Jamuna Television
as Director (News), and Maasranga Television as Head of the news.

Along with journalism Alamgir served as president and general secretary of
Dhaka Union of Journalists.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)
Abul Kalam Azad expressed profound shock at the death of Shah Alamgir.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to
the bereaved family members.
