Bangladesh reach 122 for 2 at lunch on day 1 in 1st Test

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh lost two wickets in the first session as they went to lunch with 122 for 2 in 28 overs on the first day of the first Test of three-match Test series against host New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Thursday.

The Tigers have made a positive start, losing just two wickets and also maintained a healthy run rate scoring at more than 4 runs per over.

The southpaw opener Tamim (86 batting) was superb with bat completing his half century and he took on both Boult and Southee hitting the two opening bowlers out of their comfort zone, he was well supported by young Shadman (12) – until Trent Boult found a way past the opener.

Dropped on 65, Tamim has looked solid with bat. However Neil Wagner found success in the form of Mominul’s wicket before the lunch break.

Earlier, New Zealand won the important toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first.

Squads:
Bangladesh — Tamim Iqbal, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah (captain), Liton Das (wicket keeper), Mehidy Hasan, Abu Jayed, Khaled Ahmed and Ebadat Hossain.

New Zealand — Tom Latham, Jeet Raval, Kane Williamson (captain), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Todd Astle, Neil Wagner, Tim Southee and Trent Boult.
