Govt will strengthen market monitoring ahead of Ramadan: Tipu

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 27, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today told the parliament that the government would strengthen market monitoring activities to keep the prices of essentials stable during the holy month of Ramadan.

“A total of 14 teams of the Commerce Ministry are now engaged in Dhaka city to oversee the market situation. Every team has 11 members with representatives from agriculture, industry, food and home ministries, city corporations and district administration,” he said while responding to a starred question placed by lawmaker Md Mozaffar Hossain (Jamalpur -5).

He said the market monitoring activities will be strengthened ahead of the upcoming Ramadan.

The commerce minister said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) sells essential commodities among the consumers at fair price during the Ramadan every year to keep the prices of essentials affordable to them.

In the upcoming Ramadan, he said, 35 mobile trucks will sell essential commodities in the Dhaka city through dealers, while 10 trucks in Chattorgram city and five trucks in the every remaining divisional city.

Besides, Tipu said, 112 trucks will sell essential commodities at fair price in 56 districts while 2 trucks will sell goods in each district.

He said the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has been conducting mobile courts and market monitoring drives at city, district and upazila levels.

“Market inspection drives will also be strengthened on the occasion of the Ramadan,” the commerce minister said.
