FM seeks Russian support in resolving Rohingya crisis

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today
sought Russian support in resolving the Rohingya crisis.

He made the urge while Russian Ambassador Alexander Ignatov called on Abdul
Momen at the latter’s office this morning, a foreign affairs ministry’s press
release said.

During the meeting, the foreign minister recalled the support of the
Russian Federation in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and stressed
further enhancing the existing bilateral relations between the two time-
tested friendly countries in the days ahead.

He thanked the Russian government for extending support in establishing the
Rooppur Nuclear Power Projects and also for the active collaboration in gas
field.

Mentioning the investment-friendly environment of Bangladesh, Momen invited
the Russian investors to invest in Bangladesh in different sectors.

On trade issues, he mentioned that in addition to RMG considering the
quality and price, the Russian government may import our pharmaceuticals in
large scale for the benefit of the two countries.

Ambassador Ignatov assured the Foreign Minister that his government would
continue cooperation with Bangladesh in power, energy, information
communication, trade, defense and other areas of mutual importance.

He informed Russian private sector is eager to invest in joint venture
projects in Bangladesh.

The Russian Ambassador also expressed his country’s specific interest in
importing medicine from Bangladesh and also showed interest in joint venture
investment in pharmaceutical sector.

Apart from bilateral issues, views on regional and international issues of
mutual concern were exchanged during the meeting and both sides agreed to
maintain cooperation in different multilateral platforms, the release added.
