Liton for boosting investment in Rajshahi’s industrial sector

RAJSHAHI, Feb 27, 2019 (BSS) – Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has called for boosting investment in industrial sector of Rajshahi for bolstering its socio-economic condition.

The Mayor urged the entrepreneurs from both home and abroad to invest here as the present government has already approved three mega projects for flourishing industrial sector in Rajshahi city and its outskirts.

“We will get second industrial estate of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Especial Economic Zone and Leather Industrial Park within near future,” he added while addressing a view-sharing meeting with all concerned on the issue here today.

High-ups of RCC, BSCIC, Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) and Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries (WCCI) joined the meeting at the city bhaban conference hall.

The Mayor added that Rajshahi has enormous prospects of foreign investment as it’s enriched with massive natural resources including surplus agricultural production. Foreign investment can be the vital means of bolstering economic condition.

Liton focused on the agricultural potentials of the region with special emphasis on value added agro-processing opportunities and agro-based industries.

It could add to the industrialization efforts of agro-based and agro-processing industry in the region for a sustainable and well-formed linkage of production, processing and marketing.

Chaired by RCC Chief Revenue Officer Shahana Akhter Jahan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by RCCI President Md Moniruzzaman, President of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners Association Liakat Ali, BSCIC Regional Director Tamanna Rahman and WCCI President Prof Rojety Naznin.

RCCI President Muniruzzaman told the meeting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards establishing more industries here to lessen the pressure on Dhaka.
