65,05,308 tonnes fuel worth Tk 32,937 crore imported in 2018

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 26, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said the government imported 65,05,308
metric tonnes of fuel at a cost of about Taka 32,937 crore in 2018.

The state minister revealed the information while responding to a starred
question placed by lawmaker Didarul Alam of Chattogram-4 in the parliament
with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Responding to another starred question placed by lawmaker Syed Abul Hossain of
Dhaka-4, Nasrul said the government has taken an initiative to set up solar
charging stations in six divisional cities as a huge amount of electricity is draining
everyday due to charging batteries of vehicles across the country.

“The government has taken an initiative to check electricity wastage caused by
charging batteries in vehicles,” he said.

Noting that a pilot project has already been taken to install solar charging stations
in six divisional cities, Nasrul said the government, meanwhile, set up 20 solar
charging stations across the country.
