Hasan urges BNP, Oikyafront to go to people, not foreigners
DHAKA, Feb 26, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront are repeatedly going to foreigners as they have become politically bankrupt and isolated from the people.
“People are the owners of the state. But BNP and Oikyafront have no trust on the people. So, they are repeatedly going to foreigners and insulting the nation,” he told a press conference at his secretariat office here.
Earlier, Hasan exchanged views with the members of ‘Bangladesh Climate Change Journalists Forum’.
He said BNP and Oikyafron leaders should go to the people instead of the foreigners as the countrymen are the owners of the state. They (BNP and Oikyafront) are showing their bankruptcy by going to foreigners again and again, he added.
The minister said Dr Kamal Hossain and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to the USA ambassador on Monday last. “I think if their party is for the country’s people, they should go to its people, not the foreigners,” he added.
About public hearing of BNP and Oikyafront, Hasan said the countrymen saw it as ‘public sleeping’ through the social media. They didn’t make any appeal to the common people through this public hearing, he said, adding, “I think they also need public hearing to know the role of their leaders.”
Hasan, also the former forests and environment minister and ex-member of green peace movement, said Bangladesh has no liability for the climate changes. “Yet, Bangladesh has taken a plan to reduce carbon emission. It set up around 50 lakh solar power plant. Bangladesh is showing the path of tackling the effect of the climate changes. For this, our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina achieved the ‘Champion of the Earth’ award in 2015,” he added.
The minister said Bangladesh is one of the worst affected countries for the climate change. The Paris Agreement is yet to come into effect because of the role of a few states. If the agreement comes into effect, Bangladesh and others countries will be benefited, he said.
Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary, said journalists are playing a vital role regarding the climate changes issues. “I hope that the journalists will play an important role by waging a social movement so that the government could work more on this issue,” he added.
He said, “The environment of our country will be better if we can begin environment awareness programme from the school level. We have lack of awareness.”
Forum President Kawser Rahman, General Secretary Motahar Hossain and Joint Secretary Masudul Haque, among others, were present in the view exchange meeting.
