DHAKA, Feb 26, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today told
the parliament that the government has a plan to introduce community radios
under the government management.

“The government announced the Community Radio Installation, Broadcast and.
Operation Policy in 2008. Later, the policy was amended in 2017,” he said while
responding to a starred question placed by lawmaker Md Moshiur Rahman Ranga
of Rangpur-1.

Hasan Mahmud said the government has so far given licenses to 31 NGOs and a
public agency (Agriculture Information Services under the Agriculture Ministry) to
launch community radios in the country.

Among the 32 radios which got licenses, he said, 17 community radios are
currently airing programmes while the remaining 15 radios are on the process of
starting operation.

Once the remaining 15 radios start airing programmes, the information minister
said, the process of introducing new community radios could be started.
