DHAKA, Feb 25, 2019 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has identified the suspected hijacker of a Dubai-bound Biman Bangladesh flight as Palash Ahmed, as his name and fingerprints matched with its ‘criminal database’.

“We found the name and fingerprints of the suspect Palash Ahmed — who made an attempt to hijack a flight of Biman Bangladesh — from the ‘criminal database’ prepared by the RAB. He is a permanent resident of Sonargaon Upazila under Narayanganj district and hailed from Dudhghata village under Pirojpur union,” senior assistant superintendent of police Md Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan told BSS today.

In the passenger list of Biman Bangladesh, his name was mentioned as Palash Ahmed and his seat number was 17/A, he said, adding that he was a local passenger and was going to Chattogram from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka (HSIA).

The abortive attempt of hijacking a Dubai-bound flight of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines with 148 passengers and crew ended with killing the suspect in a commando attack on Sunday night.

All the passengers and cabin crew were rescued alive following a successful commando strike led by Bangladesh Army.
