Mobile journalism needs competent workforce: Experts
RAJSHAHI, Feb 25, 2019 (BSS) – Senior journalists and academics at a
participatory discussion here today stressed the need for generating
competent workshop to fulfill the gradually mounting demands in various
journalistic fields especially mobile and electronic journalism.
They viewed that there is no alternative to make the working journalists
competent in various platforms to survive in the present and upcoming
competitive era of flourishing information technology.
They came up with the observation while conducting sessions of a daylong
training workshop titled “Mobile Journalism: the future of Journalism: A
hands on Training” at Rajshahi University (RU) campus.
RU’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) and Germany’s
Doice Velle Academy jointly organized the workshop at seminar hall of Deans
Complex.
Two British Mobile Journalists Andy Burgas and Yousuf Omor and Division
Head of Mobile Journalism in Prothom Alo Jamil Khan conducted the sessions as
resource persons.
They mentioned that a journalist who uses portable electronic devices like
smartphones or tablets to gather, edit and disseminate content is known as a
mobile journalist.
The term ‘mobile journalism’ means using smartphones in collecting,
editing, broadcasting and publishing news stories. As technology improves
steadily, mobile reporting becomes more established in newsrooms.
Modern mass media, widely known as mobile or smartphone journalism, became
a useful instrument to spread information as it unfolds. Many media experts
have already confirmed that the future will be mobile which is really
changing the trend of today’s journalism.
Yousuf Omor told the participants that the future journalists will get
scopes of enlightening the journalism profession through various innovative
activities.
MCJ Department Chairman Prof Abdullah Al Mamun and its colleges Prof
Khademul Islam and Prof Moshihur Rahman and Consultant of Doice Velle Academy
Lutfa Ahmed also disseminated their expertise on the issue.
More than 150 students of the department took part in the workshop and were
given idea and direction related to adopting journalism as profession in
future.
