Shaheed Dibosh, Int’l Mother Language Day observed abroad

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2019 (BSS) – ‘Shaheed Dibosh’ and the ‘International Mother Language Day-2019’ was observed yesterday in a befitting manner in different countries by paying homage to the country’s language movement heroes.

Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore observed the “Martyrs Day” and “International Mother Language Day” with due solemnity and respect, said a press release received here today.

The day-long program began with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by High Commissioner Md Mustafizur Rahman were officials of the High Commission and members of expatriate Bangladesh community and Bangladeshi community organizations in Singapore were present.

While a ‘Probhat Fery’ was organised in Canberra at dawn on the day at a city Park where a temporary Shaheed Minar was installed for the first time as part of day-long celebration of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day by Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra.

Australian dignitaries, including the Australian Capital Territory Multicultural Affairs Minister Chris Steel and the Leader of the Opposition Alister Coe and Bangladesh community members attended the programme.

The temporary Shaheed Minar decorated with colourful floral paintings was installed in a prominent place close to the Telopea Park in Canberra.

The Shaheed Minar was visited by students from nearby schools and general people to know about the history of the glorious Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day.

Displaying linguistic diversity and multilingualism in a brilliant fashion, artistes from Bangladesh and 12 foreign countries sang and danced during a cultural soiree at Bangladesh embassy in Washington in observance of the International Mother Language Day.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata celebrated the day with various programs.

The day’s programme began with playing of national anthem on the Deputy High Commissioner premises.
