Achin Roy’s ‘Rekechho Bangalee Kore’ unveiled in Dhaka

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2019 (BSS)- The publication ceremony of satirical book ‘Rekechho Bangalee Kore’ having 43 articles written by noted Indian journalist and writer Achin Roy was held today in the capital with the participation of dozens of Indo-Bangla journalists and writers.

Another book titled “Kahe Sadharan” of US expatriate Dr Md Nazrul Islam was also unveiled at the function held at Moni Singh-Farhad Smrity Trust Bhaban at Purana Paltan.

Elderly Indian journalists Sanat Kumar Mukherjee and Basudeb Dhar, writer Achin Roy, Professor of Dhaka University Economics Department Dr MM Akash, Iranian journalist Mehedy Fakori,journalists Haroon Habib, Hasan Shariar, Basudeb Dhar, Mozammel Hossain Manju and Chapal Bashar, economist Dr Ramani Mohan Debnath, Moni Singh-Farhad Smrity Trust president Sekhar Dutta, among others, addressed the function.

Dhaka University English Department Chairman Professor Dr. Kazal Krishna Banerjee presided over the function.

Roy titled the book extracting the last satiric line of Rabindranath Tagore’s famous “Bangamata” poem expressing his views to point towards a quagmire in which the Bengalis are visibly stuck.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor MM Akash described Achin Roy as a fine satirist who wonderfully presented the ins and outs of Bangalee culture and social values through the perfect use of metaphors and similes.

Other speakers discussed the common culture, language and friendly relations between the people of Bangladesh and India specially the Indian state of West Bengal.

“I have very close ties with Bangladesh as a spent a lot of days here and I have many good friends who helped me a lot in my profession and life as well. My fascination towards the country and its people inspired me to published my book in Dhaka,” Achin Roy told the function.

Roy spent several years in Dhaka in late 1980s and early 1990s as the resident representative of Press Trust of India (PTI) and he is now in the city in connection with the publication ceremony of his book.
