Amar Ekushey observed in Khulna
KHULNA, Feb 21, 2019 (BSS) – People of all walks of life today observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2019 in Khulna city peacefully.
Government and non-government organizations, political, professional bodies and educational institutions organized different programmes to mark the day.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque pays tribute to the Language Movement heroes at one minute past midnight last night at Shaheed Minar of City’s Shaheed Hadis Park.
Later, Muktijoddha Sangsad Khulna City and District Unit Command Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner (Acting) Sarder Rakibul Islam, Deputy DIG of Khulna Range Police Habibur Rahman, Khulna Police Super Shafiq Ullah and Administrator of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid placed floral wreaths there.
Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain along with officials of the district and upazila administration also placed floral wreaths there followed by the other government and non-government departments and organizations.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organizations and other political parties, social, cultural and professional organizations including Khulna Press Club and Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) and common people also placed wreaths there.
National flag was hoisted at half-mast atop all buildings, educational institutions and ‘probhat ferries’ were brought out in the city.
Art and essay competitions for the children and sports competitions for the school students were held along with screening of documentary films here.
