One held with smuggled gold from Burimari

RANGPUR, Feb 21, 2019 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized
smuggled gold and arrested a smuggler from Immigration Check Post (ICP) area
at Burimari Land Port in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Wednesday evening.

“On a tip off, a special patrol team from Burimari border outpost of
Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion (Teesta Battalion-2) conducted an anti-smuggling
raid there, seized smuggled gold with other goods worth Taka 12.27-lakh and
arrested the smuggler,” a press release said today.

The arrested gold smuggler was identified as Shree Sunil Biswas, 45, son of
Shree Harendra Biswas of village Azgara in Nababganj upazila of Dhaka
district.

The seized smuggled goods included 15.94 ‘Tola’ of gold worth Taka 12.15-
lakh, two mobile-phone sets worth Taka 6,500 and Taka 5,712 in cash.

Later, the BGB personnel deposited the seized smuggled gold with the
government treasury in Lalmonirhat district town.

“After filing a case against the arrested smuggler in this connection, we
handed him over to Patgram Thana police in Lalmonirhat district,” Commanding
Officer (CO) of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam,
psc, told BSS today.
