Tamim hopes to play good cricket in final ODI against NZ

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2019 (BSS)- Left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal hoped that his
side will play good cricket in the final ODI against New Zealand scheduled to
be held on Wednesday in Dunedin.

Bangladesh in the first two ODIs, lost their openers — Tamim Iqbal and
Liton Das — within the first 10 overs, which pushed them in back foot as the
visitors were unable to post a competitive total. Each time, New Zealand, led
by Martin Guptill’s stellar form at the top, chased down the targets
comfortably.

Tamim Iqbal talking to the press men said whoever comes in, needs to bat
for long and to be honest he would hope that his team would not give away the
game in the opening 10 overs, because losing wickets early will make it
difficult for the team to make a comeback.

The southpaw opener said the same thing happened with them in the last two
matches. He hopes to overcome those mistakes in the final match.

Tamim said though the blame was on the batsmen but the pitches were very
good especially in the first match.

The wicket was good in the second match as well but they faced some
problems due to the inclement weather following a heavy downpour, he added.

Thereafter, Bangladesh had a fine 2018. They won all the ODI series they
contested in – two against the Windies and one against Zimbabwe. However,
that form hasn’t been carried on to 2019, and with the ICC Men’s Cricket
World Cup 2019 just around the corner, Iqbal urged his side to “play good
cricket” and to do it “quickly”.

Tamim said last year we played some good cricket but this year we have not
been able to play good cricket,” Iqbal said. “Last time we put up a fight but
this year there was no contest.

The left handed opener however don’t find any reason why they are failing
to beat them here despite coming to New Zealand on three to four occasions.
Because Bangladesh has beaten them in Ireland and England, there is no reason
why his side cannot beat them here.

First of all, he emphasized to play good cricket it need to do it quickly
as the World Cup is not very far ahead, he concluded.
