Education support for underprivileged students stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 20, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here underscored the
need for ensuring the right to education for the poor and underprivileged
communities to build an educated and prosperous nation.

They viewed that access to education for all has become an urgent need for
overall development of the country. Collective efforts of all government and
non-government organizations concerned are of essence in this regard.

Beside, the government, rich people of the society and financial
institutions should come forward for providing education support to the
underprivileged students.

The observation came at a prize giving ceremony organised by Ladies
Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS) at its office in the city in
association with Children Education and Awareness Programme and Bangladesh
NGO Foundation yesterday.

On the occasion, 32 underprivileged meritorious students, who obtained
brilliant results in PEC, JSC and annual examinations in 2017 from different
educational institutions in the city, were awarded prizes.

Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rashedul Kabir and Editor
of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat addressed the discussion as chief
and special guests respectively with LOFS Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen
Luckey in the chair.

LOFS Vice-president Azizur Rahman, Legal Secretary Advocate Shahinul Haque
and Treasurer Shahidur Rahman also spoke.

The discussants urged all the government and non-government organisations
concerned to come forward to protect the legitimate rights of the
underprivileged children.

Terming the children as the future power of the nation, they called for
ensuring equal rights for flourishing of their latent talent.

Rashedul Kabir said the present government has taken many need-based steps
for the welfare of the distressed and underprivileged students.
