BIWTA demolises 120 illegal structures in Mohammadpur

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport
Authority (BIWTA) today conducted an eviction drive to remove illegal
structures on the banks of the Buriganga and some parts of Turag rivers in
Mohammadpur’s Bosila area.

An official press release of the Shipping Ministry said that, at least 120
illegal structures were demolished during the eviction drive today. One four-
storied building, 8 three-storied buildings, 11 two-storied and 42 one-
storied buildings were demolished along with 33 partially constructed
buildings and 25 tin shed stores and shacks.

Around 1,500 illegal structures were demolished during the nine-day
eviction drive which began on Jan 29 and had three separate phases.

BIWTA under the authorization of the Shipping Ministry will continue the
eviction drive in Bosila, resuming it tomorrow.
