RCC, PBF signs MoU for medical waste management

RAJSHAHI, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prism Bangladesh Foundation (PBF), a
non-government development organization, aims at medical waste management
hygienically.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and PBF Executive Director Khandaker
Anisur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at the city
Bhaban conference hall today.

Chaired by Panel Mayor Shariful Islam Babu, the signing ceremony was
attended and addressed, among others, by Ward Councilors Nijamul Azim and
Towhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer Rejaul Karim, Chief Revenue Officer
Shahana Akhter Jahan and Chief Conservancy Officer Shaikh Mamun.

Under the MoU, the city corporation will manage medical waste properly
aiming to protect public health as well as the country’s environment as the
infectious medical wastes are very harmful to public health as well as
environment.

Mayor Liton told the meeting that the city corporation will set up a
medical waste management plant in the near future to address the ongoing
problems in waste management.

There will have separate arrangement for collection of medical wastes from
both public and private clinics and diagnostic centers. None will be allowed
to dumping medical waste into water bodies and open space ignoring the
mandatory requirement to disinfect the waste before disposal, Liton said.
