Two committees formed to bring order on roads: Quader

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said two committees comprising three ministers and immediate past shipping minister were formed to bring order on roads and highways.

Of the two, a 15-member committee comprises Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, National Road Transport Owners Association president and opposition chief whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Nirapad Sarak Chai chairman actor Ilias Kanchan, Road Transport Owners Association secretary general Khandker Enayetullah, Road Transport Workers Federation general secretary Osman Ali, DIG highway, DIG operation, additional police commissioner DMP, and representatives of BUET, Brac, truck covered-van association, BRTA, and Road Tansport and Highways Division.

The committee will submit a report within 14 working days on how to bring order on roads and highways and transport sector as well.

Another three-member committee was formed comprising Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Law Minister Anisul Huq, and Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan which will look for effective ways to meet the demands of workers and owners in the wake of passing of the road transport act in the parliament.

Quader revealed the information at a press conference at Sarak Bhaban at Banani following a meeting with stakeholders concerning road transport sector.

He said before the parliamentary election, “We received observations and demands of stakeholders after the passing of road transport bill in the parliament. Now the committee has been formed to look into the demands to implement the act in a realistic way.”

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, Road Transport Owners Association president Mashiur Rahman Ranga, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Nirapad Sarak Chai chairman actor Ilias Kanchan, Road Transport Owners Association Secretary General Khandker Eneyetullah, and Road Transport Workers Federation General Secretary Osman Ali attended the meeting.
