Japan keen to assist food processing in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Feb 14, 2019 (BSS) – Japan has intended to assist Bangladesh in marketing
agricultural goods and food processing alongside with giving assistance for infrastructural development.

Japanese delegation led by its Ambassador Hiroyas Izumi expressed the wish when they met
agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, MP, at his Secretariat office here.

“Japan is not only the development partners of Bangladesh but also a trusted friend as it extends support to us at international arena,” Dr Razzaque said.

Recalling Japan’s contribution in bad days of Bangladesh, he said, “Japan has topped at the list of countries which has been extending supports to Bangladesh during its bad days after achieving independence.”

“Japan’s assistance for development of agriculture will show the path of quicker development,” he also said, adding that the poultry industry of Bangladesh has turned back despite it is not getting sufficient price and facing problem to enter the international market.

“Production of corn milk, vegetables and fruits is satisfactory in Bangladesh. But, it is also not getting right price due to having no proper system of preserving and processing those,” he informed the delegation.

“The minister has sought support from Japan in preserving and processing agricultural goods and foods,” he added.

In reply the Japanese envoy said, “Japan will support Bangladesh in all sectors likewise the past.”

He said that Japan is intended to support Bangladesh’s different sectors such as agriculture, food processing, price fixing of agricultural goods, irrigation, solar irrigation, training and their infrastructural development.

The other members of the delegation are: third secretary of Bangladesh embassy of Japan, Anri Uni, JICA’s senior representative, Yasuhiro Kawazoe, programme adviser, Ryuichi Katsuri, and deputy programme officer, Md Mahedi Hasan.
