Dhaka elevated expressway to open partially next year: Quader

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader today said the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, being built under Public
Private Partnership (PPP), from airport to Mogbazar will be opened partially
next year after completion of the second phase construction work of the PPP
project.

“The construction work of the second phase of the project from Banani Rail
Station to Mogbazar rail crossing will be completed in July next year. After
completion of the second phase, it will be opened for vehicular movement,” he
told the journalists after visiting the project site at Kawla adjacent to
airport in the city.

The first phase of the PPP project from Hazrat Shahjalal International
Airport to the Banani Railway Station will be completed by June this year,
Quader said, adding that the last phase of the expressway from Mogbazar
railway crossing to Kutubkhali on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway will be finished
by September 2021.

The minister said still about 50 percent work of the first phase has been
completed while the overall progress of the project is 20 percent.

“Construction of 1,304 working pile driving, 280 pile cap, 62 cross beam,
163 column completely and 84 column partially, 186 eye girder and setting up
of two span eye girder have so far been completed till now,” he said.

The 20km Dhaka Elevated Expressway is being built at cost of Taka 8,940.18
crore. It will connect Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with Kutubkhali
on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway via Kuril- Banani-Mohakhali-Tejgaon-
Moghbazar-Kamalapur-Sayedabad-Jatrabari.

PPP Project Director AHM Shakhawat Akhtar, project manager of Italian Thai
Development Public Company Limited Sakasith Swanagar and other officials
concerned accompanied the minister during the visit.
