14-party to work jointly until non-communal BD established: Nasim

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Presidium member and spokesperson of the 14-party alliance Mohammed Nasim today said the 14-party alliance would continue its work jointly under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina until a non-communal and exploitation-free Bangladesh is established.

“The Awami League-led 14-party combine based on ideology is working unitedly to fulfill a specific target under Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. . . The alliance was not formed for any post or position,” he told journalists after a 14-party meeting at Bangabandhu Anvenue’s AL central office here.

Terming the 14-party as a watchdog of the Sheikh Hasina’s government, Nasim said it (alliance) will objectively criticize the wrongs and deviations of the incumbent government in the Jatiya Sangsad.

About BNP-Jamaat politics, Nasim said despite their (BNP-Jama’at) humiliating defeat in the last parliament elections, they are spreading falsehood both at home and abroad to make the polls questionable.

“They remain still in disguise in the society and they can attack any moment like venomous snakes,” he cautioned.

Replying to a question on BNP’s movement to free its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the AL presidium member said, “Begum Zia is now a convict . . . She is not a political leader. And the court has the sole authority to release Khaleda Zia. So no release is possible by issuing any threat to the government.”

Nasim further urged the elected MPs from Jatiya Oikyafront and BNP to join the parliament session.

He added: “Boycotting the parliament session won’t bring any benefit for them at all. You better criticize the government’s faults and misdeeds in a neutral manner, which will be beneficial for the country and its democracy.”

In the meeting, they also congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being elected the Prime Minister of the country for the fourth consecutive term.

Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, MP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, Bangladesh Tariqat Federation Chairman Nozibul Bashar Maizvandari, MP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (one faction) General Secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) convener Md Rejaur Rashid Khan, Dhaka South City AL Joint-General Secretary Kamal Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary Ashraf Talukder, among others, were present.
