President, PM urge coast guard to work with patriotism

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh

Hasina today hoped that the members of the Coast Guard would work with patriotism,

sincerity, honesty, courage and cordiality to ensure foolproof security of the

country’s maritime and coastal regions.

In separate messages on the eve of the 24th anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard

and “Coast Guard Day-2019”, they also lauded the role of the members of the coast

guard in protecting maritime recourses of the country.

President Abdul Hamid said, “Since its inception, Bangladesh Coast Guard has been

playing an active role in protecting the law and order in maritime boundaries, coastal

areas, fisheries and forest resources. The force is also working relentlessly in

preventing infiltration, human trafficking, smuggling and piracy in the coastal areas

of the country. They also have made significant contributions through rescue

operations in coastal areas during natural disasters”.

He said the incumbent government has taken massive steps to modernize the Coast

Guard by 2030.

“The mechanisms and technical capabilities of the force are being increased to

build the Coast Guard as a modern two-dimensional force,” he said.

In her speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government has already taken

various measures to build the coast guard as a capable force so that they can

contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.

Bangladesh has established legal and economical rights over a large maritime

boundary in the Bay of Bengal under the ruling Awami League government, she added.

Ensuring fair and proper use of huge marine resources, the premier said, the

government has plans to include hovercraft, drone, helicopter and maritime patrol

aircraft for this force.

However, the process of appointing manpower aiming at enhancing professional skill

and competence of the coast guard members is underway, she continued.

The Prime Minister hoped that the coast guard would perform their duties with

patriotism, sincerity and courage and contribute to implement the ‘Vision-2021’ and

‘Vision 2041’ of the government.

The president and the premier also wished successes of the Coast Guard and greeted

its members on the occasion.
