Indian army chief to visit Nepal from Monday

KATHMANDU, Feb 12, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Indian Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat
will be arriving in Kathmandu for a three-day visit on Monday, the Nepalese
Army Headquarters said here.

The Indian Army Chief will be the Special Guest during a ceremony to be
organized by the Nepalese Army to mark the Nepalese Army Day at Tundikhel on
February 13 in the heart of the capital.

“The serving Indian Army chief also serves as the honorary chief of the
Nepal Army and vice-versa. Gen. Rawat is arriving here as a special guest
during the function to be marked Nepalese Army Day celebrations,” read a
press statement issued by the Nepalese Army Headquarters in Kathmandu.

Besides from holding meeting with his Nepali counterpart, the Indian army
chief will meet Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher
Bahadur Deuba and Defense Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan during his stay in
Nepal.

The Nepalese Army is organizing various programs to mark its 250th founding
anniversary this year, the statement said.

“This type of high level exchange of visits at the top military level is
expected to bolster age-old cordial military-to-military and bilateral ties
between the two countries through military diplomacy,” the statement further
said.
