Work for 91 more training centres underway: Monnujan

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and
Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian today said the government is working to
construct 91 more technical training centres across the country aimed at
increasing the efficiency and productivity of workers.

“The government is giving special emphasis on improving the skills of the
overseas workers, who aim to go abroad for employment,” she said while
responding to a starred question from treasury bench member Gazi Mohammad
Shahnawaz of Habiganj-1 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Sufian, on behalf of State Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas
Employment Imran Ahmed, said during the tenure of the present government the
number of technical training centres has been increased to 70 from 38. The
government has also taken initiative to construct training centres at the
upazila level, she added.

In the competitive labor market, migration costs of skilled workers are
much less compared to the unskilled workers. Besides the salary,
opportunities and demand of skilled workers is much higher, she informed the
House.

Meanwhile, the ministry has fixed the migration cost with 16 countries
along with Saudi Arabia and to this end, the government has been campaigning
massively through website, mass media, technical training centres and
district employment and manpower offices, the state minister said.
