Stocks maintain downward trend on lower transactions

DHAKA, Feb 11, 2019 (BSS) – Stocks witnessed another downward session on Monday as all indices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) maintained falling trend due to lower transactions.

Both the turnover and trade declined on the DSE. Turnover, a major indicator of the market, declined to Taka 719.13 crore from the Sunday’s Taka 812.77 crore while trade volume came down to 16.22 crore shares from the Sunday’s 16.47 crore shares.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, shed 29.82 points to close at 5,733.91. Two other indices followed the same trend as DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost by 21.65 points to close at 2,003.03 and DSE Shariah index lost by 8.65 points to settle at 1,311.63.

Out of 345 traded issues, 155 closed higher, 151 closed lower and 39 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Five top gainers on DSE were Prime Insurance, Sonar Bangla Insurance, United Insurance, Paramount and IBP. IPDC, VAMLRBBF, First Fin, Doreen Power and Zeal Bangla were the top five losers.

UPGDCL topped the turnover list followed by Monno Ceramics, Doreen Power, Fortune and Provati Insurance.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 21.83 points down at 17,574.43.

At CSE, 263 issues were traded. Of those, 125 closed higher and 110 closed lower when 78.36 lakh shares worth Taka 21.56 crore changed hands.
