Road accidents kill 4 in 3 northern districts

RANGPUR, Feb 11, 2019 (BSS) – Four people were killed in three separate
road accidents at different places of Rangpur, Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat
districts today, police said.

In Rangpur, driver of a truck was killed when two loaded trucks
collided-head on from the opposite directions at Kolaboroi point on the
Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Pirganj upazila here at noon today.

“The deceased truck driver was identified as Rafikul Islam, 40, of
Pirganj upazila in Rangpur,” said In-charge of Barodorga Highway Police Camp
Sub-inspector Moazzem Hossain.

In Lalmonirhat, two motorcyclists were killed on the spot after a loaded
truck hit them at Meserghat point on the Lalmonirhat-Patgram road in Patgram
upazila this afternoon.

“The deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam, 40, and Arif Hossain,
38, of Goshala Bazar area in Lalmonirhat district town,” said Officer-in-
Charge (OC) of Patgram Thana Arzoo Md Sajjad Hossain.

The deceased persons were returning to Lalmonirhat after completing
business work at Patgram municipal town when the mishap occurred, the OC said
saying that police recovered the bodies and brought those to Patgram Thana.

In Dinajpur, a cattle trader was killed when a shallow-engine driven
‘Nocchimon’ carrying him fell down into the roadside ditch near Ichhamati
College Mour Bridge point on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Chirirbandar
upazila at 1 pm.

“The deceased was identified as Tafikul Islam, 35, of Joshaihat Durgapur
village in Parbotipur upazila of Dinajpur district,” OC of Doshmile Highway
Police Thana GM Shamsu Noor said.

The deceased was going to Ranirbandar Hat from Amtali Bazar by the
‘Nocchimon’ when the accident occurred as the driver lost control over the
steering of the vehicle.

Separate cases were filed in these connections with the respective
police stations, police said.
