Religion for individuals, festivals for all: CJ

DHAKA, Feb 10, 2019 (BSS) – Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Hossain today
said religion is for individuals but festivals are for all and wished success
for all on the occasion of Saraswati Puja.

The chief justice said these while addressing a bani archana programme at
the Supreme Court Bar Auditorium here this morning.

Presided over by Supreme Court Bar Association Bani Archana Udjapon
Parishad convener Advocate Shashthi Sarker, the function was also addressed,
among others, by Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice
Gobinda Chandra Tagore, Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha, Attorney General
Mahbubey Alam, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul
Abedin and General Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon.

“I think festivals are for all and that is why I came here to attend this
festival. This puja is being observed here (Supreme Court Bar) for long and I
came here almost every time. I will come in the future too,” Syed Mahmud
Hossain added.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the history of communal harmony in our
country is thousand years old, adding, “I wish people, irrespective of
castes, creeds and religions, enjoy this occasion and becomes a single soul
marking this festival.”

Saraswati Puja or Basant Panchami falls on the fifth day of the Bengali
month of Maagh each year when Hindus worship goddess Saraswati, the goddess
of learning, to mark the coming of spring.
