Naria soil not be let for erosion: Shamim

SHARIATPUR, Feb 8, 2019 (BSS) – Deputy Minister for Water Resources Enamul
Haque Shamim today vowed not to let even a single inch of soil at Naria to be
eroded at the mighty River Padma saying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will do
whatever necessary in this regard.

“Sheikh Hasina is the mother of humanity. She has devoted her life for
ensuring welfare of common people… We’ll not let even a single inch of soil
to be eroded at the Mighty River Padma,” he said.

The deputy minister said this while witnessing the progress of protection
works of Right Embankment of the River at the Naria-Janzira portion under the
project at Mulfatganj Bazar here this morning.

He also informed that around 18-20 lakh Geo bags would be put by this April
at the protection work on the right embankment of the River Padma under Naria
and Janzira areas to fulfill the target.

Earlier, around 2,700 Geo bags were put in this area but after the day’s
visit, around 16,000 bags are being put here while dredger machines would
begin work here within the next few days, Shamim said.

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already directed the Ministry
to take all-out measures to prevent river erosion before the rainy season
side by side there is no negligence in the overall works.

UNO M Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police Al Mamun Sikder,
Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Prakash Krishna Sarker, Upazila
Chairman AKM Ismail Haque were present, among others, on the occasion.
