Govt efforts lauded for development of people with disability

RANGPUR, Feb 08, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion lauded the
comprehensive steps taken by the government for ensuring inclusive
development of the physically-challenged people.

Rangpur Badhir Sangha (RBS) with district administration and Department of
Social Services (DSS) organised the discussion at Sumi Community Centre here
on Thursday afternoon in observance of the Bangla Sign Language Day-2019.

Earlier, a rally, participated by physically challenged, hearing impaired
and intellectually disabled people, students, guardians, teachers, officials
of different organisations and civil society members, was brought out on the
city streets.

Divisional Director of the DSS Anil Chandra Barman addressed the discussion
followed by and distribution of blankets among the poor and distressed people
with disabilities as the chief guest.

With RBS President Shariful Karim Sharfu in the chair, Deputy Director of
the DSS Md Abdul Matin attended the discussion as special guest.

Senior Vice-president of RBS Sabina Afza Haque Lisu, its Vice-presidents
Abul Kalam Azad Mithu and Iftekhar Ahmed, General Secretary Mizanur Rahman
Mizan and Joint General Secretary Manjil Murad Lavlu also spoke on the
occasion.

The chief guest laid emphasis on GO-NGO cooperation to support the
physically challenged people to turn them into human resources through
ensuring their development, empowerment, employments, constitutional rights
and social security.

Md Abdul Matin said the government is implementing various programmes to
ensure education, training, health services and extracurricular activities
for the physically challenged, disabled, deaf and dumb and vision impaired
population.

He stressed on mainstreaming and empowering the people with different
types and extents of disabilities through joint efforts of the government and
non-government organisations. Sabina Afza Haque Lisu discussed the academic,
training and extracurricular activities being conducted at RBS for the
physically challenged, disabled, deaf and dumb and vision impaired
population.
