Ctg Bar election on Feb 10 CHATTOGRAM,

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS)-Election to Chattogram District Bar Association (CDBA) will be held on February 10. Four panels are contesting this year’s poll.

Election commission sources said all preparations including printing of ballot papers have been completed and candidates have been urged to obey the election rules strictly.

Chief election commissioner Advocate Anwarul Islam Chowdhury told BSS that wall writing and pasting posters have been prohibited.

Candidates are also obeying the rules and regulations directed by the election commission, he added. Four panels: one panel Chattogram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad is comprised of Awami League and pro-liberation forces, while another group Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad Bangladesh comprises of progressive and left leaning lawyers, Democratic Lawyers’ Association, Chattogram and pro- BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are vying for 19 posts in the election this year.

CDBA sources said 47 candidates were vying for the posts of 19 office-bearers including 10 executive committee members.

Syed Muktar Ahmed of Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, Chandan Das of Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and A S M Badrul Anwar from Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are contesting for the post of President.

Besides, Ayub Khan from Somomona Parishad, Touhidul Munir Chowdhury Tipu from Somomona Sangsad, Jahir Uddin Mahmud from Bangladesh Democratic Lawyers’ Association, Chattogram and Mohammad Kashem Chowdhury from Oikya Parishad are in the race for the post of general secretary.

Advocate Anwarul Islam Chowdhury will act as the chief election commissioner, while Advocate Ratan Kumar Roy, Advocate Ziauddin Ahmed, Abul Kalam Azad and Enamul Haque will be election commissioners. Voting will begin at CDBA Auditorium at 9 am and continue till 4 pm without any break, the sources said. A total of 3300 lawyers are eligible to exercise their franchise in this election.
