Govt to set up institute for challenged people in Dhaka

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today
said the government is working to set up an institute in the capital city for
speech and hearing impaired people in order to provide them with proper
trainings.

“Only eight educational institutions for over 1.66 lakh registered hearing
and speech impaired people are inadequate….an institution with training
facilities will be established soon to provide them with trainings,” he said
while speaking at a discussion.

Social Services Department organised the meeting at city’s Agargaon today,
marking the Bangla Sign Language Day-2019.

On the occasion, rally, various cultural programmes and the discussion were
held under the Social Welfare Ministry, said a press releae.

The Bangla Sign Language user community is the largest community among the
language based minority communities in Bangladesh. The day has been observed
nationally since 2013, added the release.

With Director General of Department of Social Services Gazi Mohammad Nurul
Kabir in the chair, Senior Secretary to the welfare ministry Jewena Aziz was
present at the meeting as special guest.

Social Welfare Additional Secretary (Institutions and Disabilities)
Sushanta Kumar Pramanik also spoke at the meeting, among others.
