Youths urged to stand against terrorism, extremism

RAJSHAHI, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS)- Academics and researchers have urged all and
the youth forces in particular to stand and raise voice against all sorts of
terrorism and extremism for the sake of establishing peace and tranquility
everywhere in the society.

Terming the youths as future leaders of the nation they viewed their role
is very much significant towards establishing peace in the society which is
vital for taking the nation forward positively.

They came up with the observation while addressing an inception meeting of
a project titled “Role of Youth Community in Establishing Peace” at Senate
Building of Rajshahi University (RU) today.

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), who will implement the six-month
project at RU from now on, hosted the meeting addressed by RU Vice-chancellor
Prof Abdus Sobhan and its Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha as
chief and special guests respectively.

Chaired by Acting President of BEI and former ambassador M Humayun Kabir,
the meeting was attended and addressed, among others, by social activist
Shaheen Akter Rainy, RU Registrar Prof Abdul Bari, Proctor Prof Lutfor
Rahman, Students Adviser Prof Laila Arjuman Banu and Dean of Social Science
Faculty Prof Fakhrul Islam.

In his keynote speech, Humayun Kabir says the project intends to bring the
youth community to the role of leadership for building a peaceful Bangladesh.
Some 30 students will be brought under the programme of awareness and
capacity building directly in the light of achieving the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).

More than 1,000 students will be benefited from the project indirectly. He
also said the programme will help boosting level of confidence of the youths
side by side with preparing them as champions for preventing radicalization
and violent extremism.

Chief Guest Prof Abdus Sobhan stressed the need for transforming the young
generation into worthy citizens through time-fitting training so that they
can contribute to the ongoing nation building process.
