India to work with Sheikh Hasina’s government, says Modi

NEW DELHI, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today
reaffirmed India’s commitment to work with Bangladesh during the new term in
office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The India-Bangladesh relations have been on an upward trajectory in the
last few years,” he said when the visiting Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK
Abdul Momen met him here this morning.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali, among others, were
present during the meeting.

The prime minister congratulated Dr. Abdul Momen on his appointment as the
foreign minister of Bangladesh and appreciated his gesture of selecting India
as the destination for his first foreign visit.

Dr. Abdul Momen briefed the prime minister on recent developments in the
bilateral relationship.

Earlier, Momen arrived in New Delhi last night on a three-day official
visit to attend the 5th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC)
meeting to be held tomorrow.

He is leading a high level official delegation comprising secretaries of
different ministries and concerned departmental chiefs relating to the JCC
meeting. Foreign Minister Momen will lead the Bangladesh delegation and his
counterpart Sushma Swaraj the Indian delegation to the JCC.

Prior to the JCC meet, he will hold meeting with Sushma Swaraj tomorrow
morning.

Officials concerned of Bangladesh mission here said that five MoUs
including cooperation of the two countries in graft investigation and on TV
broadcasting and medicinal plants are likely to be signed during the visit.

Apart from his official engagement, he will meet former Indian President
Pranab Mukherjee at the latter’s residence in New Delhi.
