Rice procurement drive nearing completion in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) – Aman rice procurement drive which was
commenced in the district in December, 2018 is nearing completion here amid
much enthusiasm to all the concerned including the millers.
Food department sources said the government has set a target to purchase
14,377 tonnes of rice from the millers through 11 purchasing centres of the
district during the current Aman season at the rate of TK 36 per kg.
To make the procurement drive a grand success the department of food had
done an agreement with 946 millers of the district to supply rice to the
local supply depots (LSDs), said an official of the department.
Talking to the BSS district controller of food M. Jahirul Islam said the
target fixed by the government must be easily achieved this year as 13,877
tonnes of rice had been purchased from the millers till February 06.
Instructions were given to the officers in charge of LSDs here to procure
rice from the millers properly without any criticism and irregularities, he
also said.
In reply to a query, district controller of food M. Jahirul Islam said the
drive would continue till February 28, 2019.
