Shafin Ahmed’s nomination paper accepted for DNCC by-poll
DHAKA, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – The Election Tribunal today accepted the nomination paper of Jatiya Party nominee band singer Shafin Ahmed for by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral post slated for February 28.
After scrutiny of the nomination papers, Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Md Abul Kasem canceled Shafin’s nomination papers on charge of loan default, a press release said here today.
Shafin filed an appeal with the Election Tribunal at the Divisional Commissioner’s office against the decision of the next Returning Officer in this regard. As per the Election Commission (EC) schedule, the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is February 9 and the last date for symbol allocation is February 10.
The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant following the death of its mayor Annisul Huq.
Election to councilor and reserved women councilor posts in newly inducted 36 wards of Dhaka south and north city corporations will also be held on February 28.
