Housing minister warns of tough action against dishonest realtors

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS)-Public Works and Housing Minister S M Rezaul Karim today said that the incumbent government would take actions against dishonest realtors if the REHAB comes up with their names.

“We will take action against the realtors who deceives the flat buyers . . . give us their names. None is powerful than the government,” he said while speaking at the opening of the 5-day REHAB housing fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here today.

Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) President Alamgir Shamsul Alamin chaired inaugural session while Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, REHAB’s senior vice-president Nurunnabi Chowdhury and vice presidents Liaquat Ali, Md Anwaruzzaman, Kamal Masud and Shakil Kamal Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.

Rezaul Karim assured the REHAB members of giving all cooperation to the real estate sector.

NBR chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the new VAT law will be executed from the current fiscal year but 15 percent VAT will not be enforced for all sectors. Sectors that will work for the people’s welfare will get big waiver but they will have to pay the minimum VAT, he added.

Mosharraf said some dishonest people are doing real estate business and they do not become member of REHAB. They take money from people but do not hand over flats timely.

REHAB president Alamgir Shamsul Alamin said REHAB members would be able to build flats for low-income people if the government provides land.

He said REHAB members are not able to build flats for low-income people because land price goes up tremendously. If the government provides land, REHAB members will be able to construct flats for low-income people, he added.

A total of 202 stalls, including 168 real estate and 20 construction materials, have been set up at the fair venue.

Interested visitors can visit the fair from 10am to 9pm and one-time entry ticket will cost Taka 50. The price of multiple (five-time entry) entries has been fixed at Taka 100. The proceeds from the ticket sales will be spent for the welfare of destitute.
